Jack Frost is believed to have come from Germanic folklore, and was very popular with the Anglo-Saxon and Norse during winter. The crystal patterns of frost found early in the morning on the windows were said to be from Jack Frost. He is described as being the persona of cold winter and is elfish. He is also a variant of Father Winter. In a Finnish epic he comes from his father, Blast.

The Danag is from Filipino lore and is considered a vampire. The word danag means “image in the dark, silhouette.” At first the Danag was considered to be nice and helpful by helping people plant. This all changed when a woman cut her finger and he got his first taste of blood. He enjoyed it so much he sucked her dry and she died. From then on he is considered to be evil and is known to move about at accelerating speeds.

plural: Ale

Introduction

Ala, also known as the Varcolac or Vukodlak,is a Turkish, Serbian and Greek term for Eclipse vampire. The creature is said to devour the sun and the moon, and originates from the sky. It is said that the Ala take human shape sometimes and enjoy drinking boiled milk, wine, and vodka.

The Serbian Tale

In Serbian folklore, there is a story of a peasant who owned a vineyard lost all of his money due to the storms caused by the Ala. He decided that he needed to get rid of the vampire if he wanted to make any money. He consulted several wise people, and they agreed that the best way to get rid of it was to use a combination of precious metals. He was told to wait under a tree with a loaded shotgun containing bullets made of lead, silver, gold, and steel. And when it appeared, he was expected to shoot it.

So after he replanted everything, he waited patiently. Days went by, then weeks, then months. Then one day, when he was about to harvest his grapes, he noticed a storm coming. The sky began to darken, the wind picked up, it began to thunder, lightning, and then hail. Expecting the Ala was coming, the farmer grabbed his gun and he took his spot under the pear tree. Then, suddenly, from the storm, the ala came down to eat some grapes, supposedly in the form of an eagle. The peasant shoots and kills it. Immediately after it was killed, the sky cleared and it was nice outside again. Afterwards, the storm did not return.
